The Doors

The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965, led by singer and lyricist Jim Morrison alongside keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore. Their 1967 self-titled debut album introduced a sound built on Manzarek's organ textures, Krieger's flamenco- and blues-influenced guitar, and Morrison's poetic, often dark and provocative lyrics and stage presence.

The band became known for pushing rock beyond simple entertainment, exploring themes of mortality, desire, and altered consciousness, most famously in the extended composition «The End». Hits like «Light My Fire», «Break On Through (To the Other Side)», «Riders on the Storm», «L.A. Woman», «People Are Strange», and «Roadhouse Blues» combined psychedelic and blues-rock elements with a theatrical intensity that set them apart from their peers. Their name was drawn from Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception.

The band released six studio albums with Morrison before his death in 1971 at age 27, after which Manzarek and Krieger continued briefly as a trio. The Doors were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and remain one of the most influential and enduring acts of the late-1960s rock era.
