About the artist
The Distillers are an American punk rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1998, led by Australian-born vocalist and guitarist Brody Dalle. Emerging from the LA hardcore and punk scene, the band built its reputation on raw, aggressive guitar work paired with Dalle’s distinctive rasping snarl, drawing on the legacy of first-wave punk and hardcore while injecting it with a melodic, gothic edge.
The group released its self-titled debut and the follow-up «Sing Sing Death House» on Hellcat Records, part of Epitaph, before signing to Sire Records for their breakthrough album «Coral Fang». That record pushed the band toward a wider rock audience while keeping its confrontational core, with songs like «Drain the Blood» and «The Hunger» becoming fan favorites. Lineup changes were frequent throughout the band’s history, but Dalle remained the constant creative force, writing or co-writing nearly every track.
After tensions and Dalle’s personal life (including her marriage to Rancid’s Tim Armstrong) contributed to the band’s split in the mid-2000s, The Distillers went on hiatus before reuniting years later for touring and new material. Their sound remains a touchstone for female-fronted punk, influencing a generation of rock acts that blend hardcore intensity with pop songcraft.
