About the artist
The Dead Milkmen are an American punk rock band formed in Philadelphia in the early 1980s, known for combining fast, scrappy garage-punk with absurdist, satirical lyrics that skewered suburban culture, politics and everyday American weirdness rather than following punk's usual angry-rebellion template.
The band's breakthrough came with songs like «Bitchin' Camaro» and especially «Punk Rock Girl», a wry, catchy single that became an unlikely alternative-rock radio hit and remains their best-known song. Their catalog is full of gleefully juvenile, joke-driven titles and lyrics, delivered with genuine musicianship and a snotty, DIY energy that placed them alongside other American underground and college-rock acts of the era.
While never a mainstream chart act, the Dead Milkmen built a devoted cult following through relentless touring and a body of work that treated punk as a vehicle for comedy as much as rebellion, influencing later strands of pop-punk and novelty-leaning indie rock. The band has periodically reunited and continued releasing music well beyond their original run.
