About the artist
The Dawn is a Filipino rock band widely regarded as one of the longest-running and most influential acts in Philippine rock music. Emerging in the mid-1980s Manila scene, the group built its reputation through the late 1980s and into the early 1990s, becoming one of the defining names of the era’s local rock movement before disbanding in 1995.
The band’s sound draws on melodic, guitar-driven alternative and college rock, marked by introspective songwriting and anthemic choruses that resonated strongly with Filipino audiences. Songs such as «Salamat» and «Enveloped Ideas» remain touchstones of the OPM (original Pilipino music) rock catalog, helping define a generation’s sense of homegrown rock identity.
After reuniting roughly four years following their split, The Dawn continued performing and recording, weathering multiple lineup changes while retaining their core creative identity. Their longevity and continued relevance through reunion tours and new material have cemented their status as elder statesmen of Philippine rock, influencing later generations of local bands.
