The Black Crowes

The Black Crowes are an American rock band formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1984 by brothers Chris Robinson (vocals) and Rich Robinson (guitar). Emerging as the hair-metal era wound down, they broke through in 1990 with Shake Your Money Maker, fusing Southern rock, blues, and the swagger of The Rolling Stones and Faces into a sound that stood apart from grunge yet resonated widely. Hits like «Hard to Handle» (a cover of Otis Redding) and «She Talks to Angels» established them as one of the defining rock acts of the early 90s.

Throughout the decade the band leaned further into jam-band territory and blues-rock improvisation, with albums such as The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion and Amorica deepening their sound. «Remedy» and «Jealous Again» remain concert staples. Their career was marked by a famously turbulent relationship between Chris and Rich, leading to multiple breakups and reunions over three decades.

After a long hiatus and solo projects, including Chris Robinson's work with the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, the brothers reunited The Black Crowes in the 2020s, renewing attention to their catalog and reaffirming their place among the great American rock bands of their generation.
