About the artist
The Beths are an indie rock band from Auckland, New Zealand, formed in 2014 by musicians who first met through the city's jazz school scene. Fronted by singer and guitarist Elizabeth Stokes, the group also includes guitarist Jonathan Pearce, bassist Benjamin Sinclair and drummer Tristan Deck. Their sound blends bright, intricately arranged guitar pop with punchy power-pop hooks, tight vocal harmonies and lyrics that mix self-deprecating humor with anxiety and heartbreak.
The band built its reputation through a run of critically acclaimed albums, including their debut «Future Me Hates Me» and the follow-up «Jump Rope Gazers», which showcased their knack for melodic urgency and emotional candor. Later records such as «Expert in a Dying Field» continued to develop their signature style, pairing dense, layered production (much of it handled by Pearce, who also works as a producer) with an ear for immediate, singable choruses.
The Beths have toured extensively across the US, UK and Europe, earning a devoted following in the indie rock scene and frequent comparisons to acts like Alvvays and Charly Bliss for their combination of pop craft and guitar-driven energy. Songs like «Little Death» and «Happy Unhappy» remain fan favorites, cementing the band's place among New Zealand's most acclaimed contemporary rock exports.
