The Band of Heathens

The Band of Heathens are an American roots-rock and Americana band formed in Austin, Texas, in the mid-2000s, growing out of a weekly residency where three singer-songwriters — Gordy Quist, Ed Jurdi and Colin Brooks — began playing together and eventually merged their bands into one. Their sound blends rock, country, soul and blues into a loose, jam-friendly Americana that draws comparisons to The Band and The Allman Brothers, built on three-part vocal harmonies and rotating lead songwriting.

The group built its reputation through relentless touring and a strong live reputation, releasing a steady stream of studio albums and live recordings independently after early major-label interest didn't pan out. Songs like «L.A. County Blues», «Hurricane», «Cornbread» and «Look At Miss Ohio» (a cover of Gillian Welch) became staples of their setlists and helped define their genre-blending, roots-oriented style.

Over time the band's lineup shifted while Quist and Jurdi remained the creative core, and they became known within the Americana and jam-band scenes for consistency, songwriting range and an independent, fan-supported business model, including running their own label.
