The Antlers

The Antlers are an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed as the solo project of singer-songwriter Peter Silberman before expanding into a full band. Their breakthrough came with the 2009 album Hospice, a devastating concept album that uses the metaphor of a hospice worker's relationship with a dying patient to explore themes of loss, illness, and grief.

Following Hospice, the band solidified as a trio with Michael Lerner on drums and percussion and Darby Cicci on keyboards, trumpet, and bowed banjo, a lineup that shaped the atmospheric, slow-burning sound of subsequent releases. Cicci departed the band in 2019. The Antlers' music is marked by Silberman's falsetto-tinged vocals, layered ambient textures, and a patient, cinematic sense of build, drawing comparisons to bands like Bon Iver and Sigur Rós while carving out a distinctly melancholic identity of their own.

Songs such as «Kettering», «Two», and «Bear» from Hospice remain among their most recognized, showcasing the band's ability to pair intimate, confessional songwriting with expansive instrumental arrangements. The band's name, according to Silberman, was inspired by a song titled Antlers by lo-fi artist The Microphones.
