The Amity Affliction

The Amity Affliction are an Australian metalcore band formed in Gympie, Queensland, in the mid-2000s. Built around the contrast between Joel Birch's harsh screamed vocals and Ahren Stringer's melodic clean singing, the group helped define a wave of Australian post-hardcore that paired aggressive instrumentation with emotionally direct, often bleak lyrics touching on depression, loss and mental health.

The band built its following through relentless touring and a string of albums that steadily climbed the charts, with releases such as Youngbloods and Let The Ocean Take Me cementing them as one of the country's most successful heavy acts, eventually crossing over into the US market. Songs like «Pittsburgh», «Drag the Lake» and «Soak Me in Bleach» became staples of their live sets and showcased the push-pull between anthemic choruses and blast-heavy verses that defines their sound.
