Tenacious D

Tenacious D is an American comedy rock duo formed in Los Angeles in 1994 by Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Combining absurdist humor with genuine musicianship, the pair built a devoted following through acoustic performances before signing a record deal, blending mock-epic storytelling with riffs drawn from classic and hard rock traditions.

Their self-titled debut album and its follow-ups, including «The Pick of Destiny», «Rize of the Fenix», and «Post-Apocalypto», feature songs like «Tribute», «Kickapoo», and «The Metal» that parody rock mythology while showcasing genuine vocal and guitar chops. Studio and live performances have featured a full backing band, and Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana played drums on every studio album, underscoring the group’s deep ties to the broader rock community despite its comedic framing.

Black’s film career, including «The Pick of Destiny» movie, has further intertwined the band’s music with mainstream comedy, making Tenacious D one of the most recognizable acts to bridge parody and legitimate hard-rock songwriting.
