Talking Heads

Talking Heads were an American rock band formed in 1975, led by singer and guitarist David Byrne alongside drummer Chris Frantz, bassist Tina Weymouth and, from 1977, keyboardist and guitarist Jerry Harrison. Emerging from the New York punk and new wave scene centered around CBGB, the band quickly distinguished itself with an angular, art-school approach that fused nervy post-punk rhythms with funk, world music influences and Byrne's idiosyncratic, anxious vocal delivery.

Working closely with producer Brian Eno on a run of pivotal albums, the band expanded their sound with polyrhythmic grooves and African-influenced arrangements, culminating in the widely acclaimed Remain in Light. Their catalog produced enduring songs such as «Psycho Killer», «Once in a Lifetime» and «Burning Down the House», the latter becoming their biggest commercial hit. The 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense, directed by Jonathan Demme, is often cited as one of the greatest concert films ever made and showcased the band's inventive staging and rhythmic intensity.

Talking Heads disbanded in the early 1990s but remain hugely influential, celebrated for restlessly reinventing their sound across each album while shaping the trajectory of art rock, new wave and alternative music for decades to come.
