Survivor

Survivor is an American rock band formed in Chicago in 1978 by guitarist and songwriter Jim Peterik, previously of Ides of March, together with Frankie Sullivan. Emerging during the arena-rock era, the band built its sound around soaring vocal hooks, driving guitar riffs and anthemic choruses tailor-made for stadiums and film soundtracks.

The group became a household name with «Eye of the Tiger», written as the theme for «Rocky III» after Sylvester Stallone approached Peterik directly; the song topped charts worldwide and became one of the most recognizable rock anthems ever recorded. Survivor followed it with a string of melodic hard-rock hits including «The Search Is Over», «High on You» and «Burning Heart», the latter written for «Rocky IV».

Over the decades the band went through numerous lineup changes and periods of hiatus and reunion, with Peterik and later Sullivan serving as its steady creative core. Despite the turnover, Survivor remains a defining act of early-80s American rock, its catalog still a staple of classic-rock radio and sports arenas alike.
