Supertramp

Supertramp are an English rock band formed in London in 1969, built around the songwriting partnership of Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson. Their sound sits between progressive rock and polished pop-rock, distinguished by Wurlitzer electric piano, saxophone and Hodgson's high, plaintive vocals set against Davies' grittier delivery. After early experimental albums, the band broke through commercially with 1974's «Crime of the Century», which produced enduring tracks like «School» and «Dreamer».

1977's «Even in the Quietest Moments…» added further highlights such as «Give a Little Bit» and «Fool's Overture», but the band reached its commercial peak with 1979's «Breakfast in America», a landmark album carried by hits including «The Logical Song», «Take the Long Way Home», «Goodbye Stranger» and the title track. That record cemented Supertramp as one of the defining art-pop acts of the late 1970s, balancing intricate arrangements with radio-friendly hooks.

Hodgson departed after the follow-up album, leaving Davies to steer the band through the 1980s amid the rise of digital synthesizers. Even as lineups and sounds shifted, the Davies-Hodgson catalogue from the 1970s remains Supertramp's defining legacy, still widely played and sampled decades later.
