Sublime

Sublime was an American band from Long Beach, California, formed in the late 1980s and active until 1996, consisting of Bradley Nowell (vocals, guitar), Eric Wilson (bass) and Bud Gaugh (drums). They blended ska, punk, reggae, dub and hip-hop into a loose, sun-soaked sound that became one of the defining voices of Southern California's 1990s alternative scene.

The band built a devoted following through independent releases before signing to a major label for their self-titled third album. Tragically, frontman Bradley Nowell died shortly before that album's release, and it became a posthumous breakthrough, driven by singles like «What I Got», «Santeria» and «Doin' Time», which brought the band mainstream success they never lived to fully see.

Sublime's genre-blending approach and laid-back, beach-punk aesthetic influenced a generation of ska-punk and alternative bands that followed. Decades after Nowell's death, the band's catalog continues to resonate, and surviving members later continued performing under a related name with a new vocalist.
