Styx

Styx is an American rock band formed in Chicago in 1970, built around the songwriting and vocal contributions of Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw and James Young, along with the Panozzo brothers, John and Chuck. The group rose through the 1970s as part of the arena rock and progressive-leaning pop rock wave, becoming known for blending hard rock guitar work with theatrical, keyboard-driven ballads.

Their catalog is anchored by hits such as «Come Sail Away», «Lady», «Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)», «Renegade» and «Too Much Time on My Hands», songs that showcase the band's signature mix of soaring harmonies, guitar riffs and grand, almost operatic arrangements. The 1983 album Kilroy Was Here and its single «Mr. Roboto» pushed the band into a more conceptual, synth-heavy direction that became one of their most divisive but enduring statements.

Styx has weathered numerous lineup changes over the decades, including DeYoung's departure and the arrival of Lawrence Gowan on keyboards and vocals, along with shifts among the rhythm section following John Panozzo's death. Despite the turnover, the band has continued to tour and record, remaining a fixture of classic rock radio and live arena shows built around its catalog of power ballads and guitar-driven anthems.
