About the artist
Steelheart is an American hard rock and glam metal band formed in New Jersey in the late 1980s, fronted by the Serbian-American vocalist Miljenko Matijevic, whose powerful multi-octave range became the group’s defining trademark. Emerging as the hair-metal era was reaching its commercial peak, the band signed to MCA Records and released its self-titled debut album in 1990.
That debut produced the band’s best-known song, the power ballad «She’s Gone», which showcased Matijevic’s soaring falsetto and became a staple of the genre alongside harder-edged tracks like «Down ’n’ Dirty» and the title track «Steelheart». The album achieved gold certification and helped the band build a dedicated international following, particularly strong in parts of Europe and Asia even as glam metal’s popularity waned in the US with the rise of grunge.
A serious stage accident involving Matijevic in the early 1990s slowed the band’s momentum, but Steelheart continued recording and touring in various lineups over the following decades, remaining a recognizable name in melodic hard rock and a favorite on classic rock radio for its ballad-driven sound.
