St. Vincent

St. Vincent is the recording name of Annie Clark, an American singer, songwriter and guitarist born in Oklahoma and raised in Texas, whose music sits at what she has called the intersection of accessible and lunatic. Before her solo career she played with The Polyphonic Spree and toured as a member of Sufjan Stevens' band, experiences that shaped her taste for orchestral texture and unusual arrangement.

Her sound blends art rock, pop and electronic elements with jagged, heavily processed guitar work set against precise, often theatrical vocals. Albums like Actor, Strange Mercy, the self-titled St. Vincent and MASSEDUCTION trace a path from chamber-pop arrangements toward sharper, more danceable production, with songs such as «Los Ageless», «Digital Witness», «Masseduction» and «New York» showing her range between abrasive guitar textures and vulnerable balladry.

Clark has collaborated widely, notably with David Byrne on the album Love This Giant, and has worked as a producer for other artists as well as directing music videos and a segment of the film XX. She is also known for a Grammy win for Best Rock Song for «Masseduction» and for pushing an increasingly stylized visual persona alongside her music.
