Сплин (Splean)

Sploon (Сплин) is a Russian rock band from Saint Petersburg, formed on 27 May 1994 and led continuously by singer, guitarist and principal songwriter Alexander Vasilyev. The band's name comes from a poem by the Silver Age poet Sasha Cherny, which inspired the track «Под сурдинку» on their debut album, Пыльная быль. Over three decades Sploon has become one of the defining acts of post-Soviet Russian rock, known for melancholic, poetic lyrics wrapped in a sound that mixes guitar-driven rock with electronic and atmospheric elements.

The band's late-1990s and early-2000s run, including the albums Гранатовый альбом and 25-й кадр, produced some of the most recognizable songs in Russian rock, such as «Моё сердце», «Выхода нет» and «Орбит без сахара», and cemented Vasilyev's reputation as one of the country's most distinctive lyricists. The song «Передайте это Гарри Поттеру» became an unexpected pop-culture crossover hit.

With more than fifteen studio albums released, Sploon has continually evolved its sound while retaining Vasilyev's introspective, often melancholic voice, remaining one of the most consistently active and respected rock bands in Russia.
