Snail Mail

Snail Mail is the project of American singer-songwriter Lindsey Jordan, born June 16, 1999, in Ellicott City, Maryland, and now based in Baltimore. Classically trained on guitar from a young age and mentored by Mary Timony, Jordan brought unusual instrumental fluency to indie rock, building songs around wiry, precise guitar lines rather than distortion for its own sake. After a 2016 debut EP called «Habit» on Sister Polygon Records, she signed to Matador and released her breakout debut LP «Lush» in 2018, praised for its blend of teenage candor and unusually mature songcraft.

Her follow-up, «Valentine» (2021), arrived after a period of exhaustion and personal struggle following her rapid rise, and traded some of the earlier record's guitar-pop directness for more varied arrangements, synths, and a darker emotional register, addressing heartbreak and burnout with unflinching lyrics. Songs like «Pristine», «Heat Wave», and the title track «Valentine» became touchstones of the record.

Onstage Snail Mail is filled out by bassist Alex Bass and drummer Ray Brown, though the project remains centered on Jordan's songwriting and voice. She is often placed alongside a wave of women-led indie rock acts of the late 2010s, valued for combining diaristic lyricism with technically accomplished guitar work rather than lo-fi simplicity.
