Slowdive

Slowdive are an English band formed in Reading, Berkshire, in 1989, one of the defining acts of the shoegaze movement alongside contemporaries like My Bloody Valentine and Ride. The band's core lineup features Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell on vocals and guitar, joined over the years by bassist Nick Chaplin, guitarist Christian Savill, and various drummers, with Halstead serving as the group's primary songwriter.

Their sound is built on layers of reverb- and effects-drenched guitars, hazy dual vocals, and a dreamlike, atmospheric production style, epitomized by albums like «Souvlaki» (1993), which despite initial mixed critical reception has since been reassessed as a landmark of the genre. Tracks such as «Alison» and «When the Sun Hits» remain among their most enduring and widely celebrated songs. The band moved toward more ambient and folk-influenced textures on their later 1990s material before disbanding.

Following their breakup, Halstead, Goswell, and drummer Ian McCutcheon formed Mojave 3, pursuing a more acoustic, alt-country direction. Slowdive reunited in 2014 and released a well-received self-titled album, cementing their standing as one of shoegaze's most influential and enduring bands, with a lasting impact on subsequent dream pop and ambient rock artists.
