Slaughter to Prevail

Slaughter to Prevail is a deathcore band from Russia fronted by the Chechnya-born vocalist Alex Terrible, whose growls and distinctive stage presence have made him one of the most recognizable frontmen in modern extreme metal. Formed in the mid-2010s, the band built its early reputation through viral live footage before releasing the EP Chapters of Misery and the full-length albums Misery Sermon and Kostolom, the latter title being Russian slang for bonebreaker. Their sound combines crushing breakdowns and pig-squeal vocals typical of deathcore with elements of slam and hardcore, often woven together with imagery and lyrical themes drawn from Slavic and Viking folklore.

Songs like Baba Yaga and VIKING lean into this mythological aesthetic, helping the band stand out within a crowded deathcore scene and build a substantial international following, particularly through social media and streaming platforms. Alex Terrible's visual identity, including his shaved head and face tattoos, alongside the band's aggressive touring schedule, has made Slaughter to Prevail one of the most visible Russian metal exports of the last decade, drawing new listeners into deathcore who may not have otherwise engaged with the genre.
