Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups are an American alternative rock band that formed in the mid-2000s out of Los Angeles' Silver Lake music scene. Fronted by Brian Aubert's breathy, androgynous vocals and built on layers of fuzzed-out, shoegaze-indebted guitar, the band quickly drew comparisons to '90s alternative acts like the Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine while carving out their own dense, atmospheric sound.

Their 2005 debut album «Carnavas» established the template — walls of distorted guitar, driving rhythms, and Aubert's ambiguous, half-whispered melodies — and produced breakout singles like «Lazy Eye» and «Well Thought Out Twinkles». Subsequent albums such as «Swoon» and «Neck of the Woods» continued to explore that same tension between noise and melody, often layering synths over the guitar-driven core to add texture and scale.

Songs like «Panic Switch» and «The Royal We» brought the band mainstream alternative-rock radio success, and Silversun Pickups became known for a live show built on dynamic shifts between hushed verses and explosive, cathartic choruses. Their sound helped keep a shoegaze- and grunge-inflected strain of alternative rock alive in American rock radio well into the 2010s.
