Shinedown

Shinedown is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed by singer Brent Smith in 2001 after the breakup of his earlier band, Dreve. Signed to Atlantic Records, Smith assembled the group's original lineup and quickly established Shinedown as a force in post-grunge and hard rock, with the band's sound eventually stabilizing around Smith alongside guitarist Zach Myers, bassist Eric Bass, and drummer Barry Kerch.

Over more than two decades, Shinedown has become one of the most commercially successful rock acts of its era, releasing albums including Leave a Whisper, Us and Them, The Sound of Madness, Amaryllis, Threat to Survival, Attention Attention, and Planet Zero. The band holds the record for the most number-one singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart of any act, a testament to its consistent radio dominance across multiple album cycles.

Musically, Shinedown blends anthemic hard rock hooks with introspective, often emotionally direct lyrics, spanning heavier tracks like «DEVIL» and «Cut the Cord» to more melodic, radio-friendly songs such as «Second Chance» and «45». Their catalog also includes a widely covered rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd's «Simple Man», reflecting the band's roots in classic Southern rock traditions even as their sound has evolved toward more electronic and polished modern production.
