Shakey Graves

Shakey Graves is the stage name of Alejandro Rose-Garcia, a musician and actor from Austin, Texas. He began as a one-man-band act, playing guitar and a modified suitcase-turned-kick-drum simultaneously, building a reputation on the Austin scene before expanding his live show into a full band. His early work draws on blues, folk, and old-time Americana, filtered through a raw, homemade recording aesthetic that became something of a signature.

Over time Shakey Graves broadened his sound considerably, moving from stripped-down acoustic storytelling toward rock and roll textures with more electric guitar, drums, and studio polish, a shift he has openly acknowledged in his own comments about later records. Songs like «Roll the Bones» and «Dearly Departed» showcase the tension between his folk roots and rockier instincts, while «Family and Genus» reflects his more experimental, layered arrangements.

Today the name refers both to Rose-Garcia as a solo artist and to his touring quartet, rounded out by Chris Boosahda, Patrick O'Connor, and Jon Shaw. He remains a fixture of the Austin music community and continues to be associated with a distinctly Texan blend of Americana, indie folk, and rock.
