Seals and Crofts

Seals and Crofts were an American soft rock duo formed by Jim Seals and Dash Crofts, Texas-born musicians who first played together in regional bands before launching their own act in the late 1960s. Signed to Warner Bros. Records, they became one of the defining sounds of early-1970s soft rock, known for gentle acoustic arrangements, close vocal harmonies and instrumentation that drew on folk, pop and Middle Eastern textures reflecting their conversion to the Bahá’í Faith.

The duo’s commercial peak came with the albums «Summer Breeze» (1972) and «Diamond Girl» (1973), which produced enduring hits including the title tracks «Summer Breeze» and «Diamond Girl», along with «Hummingbird». Their warm, mellow sound and introspective lyrics made them staples of American adult-contemporary and soft rock radio throughout the decade, alongside songs like «Get Closer» and «We May Never Pass This Way (Again)».

Seals and Crofts’ music is notable for weaving spiritual themes drawn from their Bahá’í beliefs into mainstream pop songwriting, giving their catalog a gentle, contemplative character distinct from many of their contemporaries. Jim Seals’s earlier work with the Champs and both musicians’ roots in Texas country and folk scenes fed into a sound that helped define the soft rock era of the 1970s.
