About the artist
SAMURAI is a fictional rock band central to the world of «Cyberpunk 2077», originating from Night City in the game's dystopian version of California. The group was formed in 2003 by guitarist Kerry Eurodyne and singer-guitarist Johnny Silverhand, with the band's name suggested by Nancy Hartley; the lineup also included drummer Denny and bassist Henry. Their music, styled as gritty, rebellious rock, became emblematic of anti-corporate sentiment in Night City's underground culture.
Songs attributed to the band, such as «Never Fade Away», «Chippin' In» and «Black Dog», function within the game's fiction as anthems of resistance against the mega-corporations that dominate the setting, mirroring Johnny Silverhand's own arc as a rockerboy turned revolutionary figure. The band broke up in 2008 following internal fractures and Nancy Hartley's incarceration.
For the 2020 video game, the real-world Swedish post-hardcore band Refused recorded SAMURAI's discography, giving the fictional group an authentic, muscular rock sound that resonated with players and helped make its music some of the most memorable licensed material in modern gaming.
