Royal Blood

Royal Blood is a British rock duo formed in Brighton, England, consisting of Mike Kerr on bass and vocals and Ben Thatcher on drums. Unusually for a rock act, the band relies on just bass and drums, with Kerr running his bass through effects and octave pedals to fill out the sonic space normally occupied by a guitar, giving the group a huge, riff-driven sound despite the stripped-down lineup.

The duo built a reputation for a raw, heavy blend of blues rock, garage rock and hard rock, with tracks like «Out of the Black», «Figure It Out» and «Little Monster» showcasing Kerr's distorted bass riffs against Thatcher's powerful, propulsive drumming. Their self-titled debut album became one of the fastest-selling British rock debuts of the 2010s, topping the UK charts and drawing attention from major rock figures for reviving a guitar-heavy sound with an unconventional instrumentation.

Royal Blood continued to develop their sound across subsequent releases, including songs such as «Lights Out», «I Only Lie When I Love You», «Hook, Line & Sinker», «Trouble's Coming» and «How Did We Get So Dark?», incorporating more electronic and groove-oriented elements while retaining their signature heaviness. The band is regarded as one of the most distinctive rock acts to emerge from the UK in the 2010s, known for translating a massive studio sound into an equally powerful live show with just two musicians on stage.
