About the artist
Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983, known for blending funk, punk, rap and psychedelic rock into a genre-defying sound anchored by Flea's slap bass, frontman Anthony Kiedis's rhythmic, semi-rapped vocal delivery, and Chad Smith's powerhouse drumming. Guitarist John Frusciante, who has left and rejoined the band multiple times, has been central to shaping their most celebrated eras.
The band broke into the mainstream with 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, produced by Rick Rubin, featuring «Under the Bridge» and «Give It Away». After a period of turmoil, they returned in 1999 with Californication, whose title track along with «Scar Tissue» and «Otherside» brought them back to global prominence and remain among their most enduring songs. Subsequent albums By the Way (2002) and the double album Stadium Arcadium (2006) continued their commercial and critical success.
The band's lineup has shifted repeatedly over four decades, including a stretch with Josh Klinghoffer on guitar, before Frusciante's 2019 return led to Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen (both 2022). Their lyrics often explore themes of love, addiction, loss and life in Los Angeles, and their raw energy and eclectic musicianship have made them one of the most successful and influential rock bands of their era.
