Placebo

Placebo are an English alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by singer/guitarist Brian Molko and bassist/guitarist Stefan Olsdal. Emerging from the mid-90s British scene with their androgynous image and provocative early single «Nancy Boy», the band quickly stood apart from the Britpop mainstream with a darker, glam-tinged, gender-fluid aesthetic and a sound that fused alternative rock with electronic textures.

Molko and Olsdal have remained the band's constant core through several drummer changes, including Robert Schultzberg on their 1996 self-titled debut, followed by Steve Hewitt and later Steve Forrest. Across albums and singles such as «Pure Morning», «Every You Every Me», «Without You I'm Nothing», «Meds», «Special Needs», and «The Bitter End», Placebo built a catalogue defined by melodic hooks, distorted guitars, synthesizers, and Molko's distinctive, androgynous vocal delivery. Their cover of Kate Bush's «Running Up That Hill» became one of their most recognized recordings.

Now performing as a duo, with Molko and Olsdal sharing songwriting duties, Placebo have sustained a devoted international fanbase for three decades. Their blend of glam rock theatricality, electronic production, and confessional, often taboo-breaking lyricism has made them one of the defining alternative rock acts to emerge from 1990s Britain.
