About the artist
Pentatonix is an American a cappella group that rose to prominence after winning the third season of NBC's The Sing-Off in 2011. The group is built around Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee, who joined after founding member Avi Kaplan departed in 2017, with Olusola notably contributing beatboxing and cello to the group's vocal-only arrangements.
The group's sound is defined by dense, precisely layered harmonies, vocal percussion standing in for drums, and a genre-spanning repertoire that ranges from pop and R&B covers to original songs and, especially, holiday music. Pentatonix made history as the first a cappella act to win the Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, taking the award in both 2015 and 2016, and later won Best Country Duo/Group Performance for a collaboration with Dolly Parton.
Beyond their self-titled 2015 studio album, which topped the Billboard 200, the group is especially known for holiday releases like «That's Christmas to Me» and «A Pentatonix Christmas», cementing their reputation as one of the defining voices of modern a cappella and seasonal music.
