Parquet Courts

Parquet Courts are an American rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2010 by Texas transplants Andrew Savage and Austin Brown (vocals/guitars), alongside Andrew's brother Max Savage on drums and Sean Yeaton on bass. Emerging alongside the mid-2010s Brooklyn DIY scene, the band quickly stood out for its wordy, deadpan, literate lyricism and a sound that fuses post-punk angularity, garage-rock urgency and art-punk experimentation, drawing frequent comparisons to Pavement, Sonic Youth and The Fall.

Albums like Light Up Gold and Sunbathing Animal established the band as critical favorites for their restless mix of motorik krautrock grooves, ramshackle punk energy and stream-of-consciousness wordplay. Later records such as Human Performance and Wide Awake!, the latter produced with Danger Mouse, pushed the group toward more polished, danceable and politically engaged territory without abandoning their scrappy origins, while Sympathy for Life leaned further into repetitive, groove-based experimentation influenced by dance and krautrock traditions.

Often cited as one of the defining bands of the 2010s American indie rock revival, Parquet Courts balance sardonic humor with sharp social commentary, and their live shows are known for raw intensity. Tracks such as «Total Football», «Tenderness» and «Almost Had to Start a Fight / In and Out of Patience» capture the band's range, from tightly wound punk bursts to sprawling, hypnotic jams.
