Мумий Тролль (Mumiy Troll)

Mumiy Troll (Мумий Тролль) is a Russian rock band founded in 1983 in Vladivostok by singer and songwriter Ilya Lagutenko, who remains the group's frontman and creative core. After years as an underground project, the band broke through nationally in the late 1990s with the album Морская (Morskaya, 1997), whose singles «Владивосток 2000», «Утекай» and «Дельфины» became defining anthems of post-Soviet Russian rock and turned Lagutenko into one of the most recognizable voices in the country's music scene.

Musically, Mumiy Troll blends new wave and Britpop-influenced guitar rock with playful, image-rich lyrics and a distinctly Far Eastern sensibility tied to Vladivostok, a city Lagutenko has consistently promoted through the band's imagery and side projects. Over subsequent decades the group's sound has absorbed electronic textures and pop production while keeping its melodic, hook-driven core intact, as heard on later records like Amba and Vladivostok.

With a catalog spanning from Новая Луна Апреля (1985) through releases like ВОСТОК X СЕВЕРОЗАПАД (2018), Mumiy Troll is widely regarded as one of the most influential and enduring acts in Russian rock, having helped define the genre's sound for an entire generation while continuing to evolve stylistically.
