Mr. Big

Mr. Big is an American hard rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles in 1988, bringing together vocalist Eric Martin, guitarist Paul Gilbert, bassist Billy Sheehan and drummer Pat Torpey — musicians who had each already made a name for themselves before joining forces. The band distinguished itself within the late-1980s and early-1990s hard rock scene through exceptional musicianship, tight vocal harmonies and a willingness to blend arena-rock bombast with intricate, almost virtuosic playing, particularly from Gilbert and Sheehan.

While many of their peers leaned purely on volume and spectacle, Mr. Big became known for pairing technical firepower with genuine songcraft, most famously on the acoustic ballad «To Be with You», which topped charts in numerous countries in 1992 and remains their signature song. Albums like «Lean into It» and «Bump Ahead» showcased their range, moving between soaring ballads such as «Just Take My Heart» and high-energy rock tracks that highlighted the band's instrumental chemistry.

Despite lineup changes — including Gilbert's departure in 1999 and the later arrival of guitarist Richie Kotzen — and a breakup in 2002, Mr. Big's reputation endured, driven largely by fan demand, leading to a reunion of the original lineup in 2009. Their combination of virtuosity and melodic accessibility left a lasting mark on hard rock, influencing generations of musicians drawn to both technical skill and strong songwriting.
