About the artist
Morrissey, born Steven Patrick Morrissey in Manchester, England, first rose to prominence in the early 1980s as the frontman and lyricist of The Smiths, alongside guitarist Johnny Marr. The band became one of the most influential acts of the decade, praised for its literate, witty and melancholic lyrics paired with Marr's jangling guitar work. After The Smiths disbanded in 1987, Morrissey launched a long and prolific solo career, opening with the album «Viva Hate» in 1988.
As a solo artist, Morrissey built a reputation for sharp, often provocative lyricism delivered in his distinctive baritone, earning him the nickname the pope of mope for his blend of gloom and dry humour. His catalogue spans rock, pop and occasional electronic textures, with songs like «Everyday Is Like Sunday», «Suedehead» and «First of the Gang to Die» becoming staples of alternative rock. He has remained a divisive but enduring cultural figure, known equally for his music and his outspoken public statements.
Over four decades Morrissey has continued releasing new material, including later works such as «I Have Forgiven Jesus» and «Bonfire Of Teenagers», maintaining a devoted fanbase drawn to his unmistakable voice and confessional, self-deprecating songwriting style.
