Mindless Self Indulgence

Mindless Self Indulgence, often abbreviated MSI, is an American electropunk band formed in New York City in 1997. The group has described its sound as «electro-punk jungle pussy» or «industrial jungle pussy punk», a self-coined tag that captures its chaotic fusion of punk energy, industrial aggression, electronic programming, and jungle/breakbeat rhythms, delivered with deliberately provocative, satirical lyrics.

Frontman Jimmy Urine has led the band since its formation, handling vocals, synthesizers, and programming, and remains the group's primary creative force. He has been joined for most of the band's history by guitarist Steve, Righ?, and by drummer Kitty since the beginning; bassist Lyn-Z Ballato-Way joined in 2001, succeeding original bassist Vanessa Y.T. This lineup has powered the band's notoriously high-energy, confrontational live shows.

MSI built a cult following through albums and singles that mix abrasive electronic production with pop hooks and shock-value humor, including tracks like «Shut Me Up», «Never Wanted to Dance», and «Molly». The band's willingness to blend genres freely and push boundaries lyrically has made them a fixture of the industrial and electropunk underground, influencing later acts in the electronic-rock crossover space.
