MGMT

MGMT is an American band formed by Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser as students at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Blending psychedelic pop, synth-driven rock and electronic textures, the duo built their sound around dreamy melodies, layered synthesizers and a knowingly theatrical edge inherited from glam and 1960s psychedelia.

Their 2007 debut album Oracular Spectacular turned them into one of the defining indie acts of the late 2000s, propelled by anthems like «Time to Pretend», «Electric Feel» and «Kids», which crossed over from indie circles into mainstream radio and festival stages worldwide. For the studio recordings, their touring musicians James Richardson, Matthew Asti and Will Berman joined the core duo.

Subsequent albums such as Congratulations and MGMT pushed further into experimental and lo-fi psychedelia, sometimes deliberately resisting the pop accessibility of their debut, while Little Dark Age marked a return to darker, synth-pop-leaning songwriting that introduced the band to a new generation of listeners online. Across their catalogue, MGMT have remained known for genre-blurring arrangements, ironic lyricism and a restless refusal to repeat themselves, cementing their reputation as one of the more unpredictable and influential acts to emerge from the indie-electronic scene of their era.
