Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is a five-piece Filipino alternative rock band formed in 2002, fronted by vocalist Monty Macalino. The band rose to prominence after winning the well-known Red Horse Muziklaban competition in 2004, a launching pad that helped establish them within the Philippine OPM (original Pilipino music) scene. Their self-titled debut album introduced the single «Jopay», which became an enduring anthem of early-2000s Filipino alternative rock and remains one of the band's signature songs.

Mayonnaise's sound blends melodic, radio-friendly rock hooks with introspective, often romantic Tagalog lyrics, a combination that resonated widely with young Filipino audiences. Tracks like «Bakit Part 2», «Tayo Na Lang Dalawa» and «Paraan» showcase the band's knack for emotionally direct songwriting paired with polished, guitar-driven arrangements. The band later revisited some of its catalog, including a 2014 version of «Jopay», reflecting its continued relevance years after its breakthrough.

Over the years Mayonnaise has remained an active presence in the Philippine rock circuit, contributing to a generation of OPM acts that balanced commercial accessibility with genuine emotional songwriting.
