Matt Maeson

Matt Maeson is an American singer and songwriter from Norfolk, Virginia, known for a raw, confessional style that blends indie folk roots with dark, atmospheric pop and hip-hop-influenced production. He grew up performing music with his family in maximum-security prisons, an unconventional upbringing that shaped the emotionally direct, storytelling quality found throughout his songwriting. He adopted the stage name Matt Maeson, a variation of his real name, to distinguish himself from an established country artist.

Maeson built his following gradually, releasing early material independently before breaking through with the EP Who Killed Matt Maeson in 2017 and the follow-up The Hearse in 2018, both showcasing his brooding sound between guitar and drum machine and his willingness to explore addiction, faith, mental health and self-destruction with striking candor. His breakout single «Cringe» became one of his most recognized songs, alongside «Hallucinogenics», «Tribulation» and «Grave Digger», tracks blending acoustic instrumentation with electronic textures and hip-hop-inflected rhythms.

His debut full-length album, Bank on the Funeral, released in 2019, cemented his reputation as an artist who moves fluidly between pop, rock, electronic and rap sensibilities without settling into a single genre. Songs like «Put It On Me» and «Me and My Friends Are Lonely» further illustrate his knack for combining melancholic lyricism with hooks built for both streaming playlists and festival stages.
