Matisyahu

Matisyahu, born Matthew Paul Miller on June 30, 1979, is an American musician who rose to prominence in the mid-2000s by fusing reggae, beatboxing, and alternative rock with themes drawn from his Hasidic Jewish faith. Raised in White Plains, New York, he became known for performing in traditional Orthodox dress while delivering reggae toasting and soulful vocals, a combination that made him a singular figure in both the Jewish music world and the broader alternative scene.

His breakthrough came with the live album «Live at Stubb’s» and the single «King Without A Crown», followed by the 2006 album «Youth», which produced the hit «Youth» and cemented his crossover appeal. The song «One Day» became one of his most widely recognized works, later used as an anthem during the 2010 Winter Olympics coverage. Over the years his sound expanded beyond roots reggae into rock, pop, and hip-hop textures, reflecting collaborations with producers and musicians across genres.

Matisyahu’s public evolution — including later stepping away from strict religious observance while continuing to explore spiritual themes — became part of his artistic narrative, and songs like «Jerusalem» and «Sunshine» reflect his ongoing engagement with identity and faith through music.
