Marianas Trench

Marianas Trench is a Canadian pop rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, formed in 2001 and fronted by lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist Josh Ramsay, alongside guitarist Matt Webb, bassist Mike Ayley and drummer Ian Casselman. Ramsay serves as the band's primary songwriter and producer, giving their catalog a distinctly cohesive, meticulously arranged sound that blends pop hooks with theatrical, concept-driven songwriting.

The band's early material was collected on their 2006 debut LP Fix Me, but it was 2009's Masterpiece Theatre that showcased their ambition most clearly, with its multi-part «Masterpiece Theatre» suite weaving melodies and lyrics across the album into a unified finale. Their 2011 album Ever After pushed this concept further, built as a continuous song cycle meant to be heard start to finish without interruption.

Marianas Trench's music moves fluidly between pop, rock and rap influences, evident in songs like «Who Do You Love», «Pop 101», «Dearly Departed» and «One Love». Their willingness to build full albums as unified artistic statements, rather than collections of singles, has made them one of the more distinctive acts in Canadian pop rock, with later work like Astoria continuing that tradition of thematic, story-driven records.
