Lovejoy

Lovejoy are an indie rock band from Brighton, England, formed in 2021 around vocalist and rhythm guitarist Will Gold, alongside lead guitarist Joe Goldsmith, bassist Ash Kabosu, and drummer Mark Boardman. The band emerged with an unusually fast online following, built largely through YouTube, and quickly translated that internet-native audience into a genuine touring and chart presence rather than remaining a purely digital phenomenon.

Musically, Lovejoy draw on the melodic, emotionally direct strand of British indie and emo-adjacent rock, pairing jangly, hook-heavy guitar work with candid, often self-deprecating lyrics. Early EPs established their sound before the band’s profile grew further with standalone singles and a run of increasingly ambitious releases, including a project that charted within the UK’s top five albums, a notable achievement for a band that started without a traditional label push behind it.

The group has continued to build a catalog defined by earnest songwriting and a strong sense of community with its audience, songs like «The Fall» and «Perfume» showcasing the interplay between Gold’s frontman presence and Goldsmith’s guitar work. Lovejoy remain one of the more prominent examples of a band whose creative direction and commercial success grew directly out of an online-first fanbase.
