LCD Soundsystem

LCD Soundsystem is the project of American musician James Murphy, founded in New York City in the early 2000s. Alongside Tim Goldsworthy, Murphy co-founded the DFA label and production team, which shaped a wave of dance-punk and disco-influenced indie rock, producing acts like The Rapture and remixing artists such as Le Tigre and Junior Senior before LCD Soundsystem became a recording act in its own right.

The band's sound fuses post-punk rhythms, krautrock repetition, disco grooves, and analog synthesizer textures with Murphy's deadpan, often self-referential vocals. Early singles like «Losing My Edge» established the project's ironic, scene-savvy voice, while albums such as «Sound of Silver» and later releases produced enduring tracks like «All My Friends», «Someone Great», and «New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down», which became touchstones of 2000s indie and dance music.

After announcing a breakup capped by a farewell concert at Madison Square Garden, the band reunited later in the decade and released «american dream», continuing to explore themes of aging, nostalgia, and urban life through their signature blend of dancefloor energy and introspective songwriting. LCD Soundsystem remains closely associated with the DFA sound and the broader 2000s revival of dance-oriented rock.
