Korol i Shut (King and Jester) are a Russian rock band formed in Leningrad in 1988, widely credited as pioneers of horror-punk in the post-Soviet music scene. Fronted by Mikhail «Gorshok» Gorshenev, the band built a distinctive identity around narrative songwriting: many of their tracks function as complete short stories steeped in fantasy, gothic horror, and dark folklore, populated by witches, fools, sorcerers, and cursed houses.

Across a discography spanning albums like «Как в старой сказке», «Жаль, нет ружья», «Бунт на корабле», and the two-part rock opera «TODD», the band combined punk energy with theatrical storytelling and melodic hooks, earning a devoted, multi-generational fanbase in Russia and beyond. Songs such as «Кукла колдуна», «Лесник», and «Проклятый старый дом» remain emblematic of their macabre-fairytale style.

The band's classic lineup effectively ended with Gorshenev's death in 2013, a loss that cemented Korol i Shut's status as a cult and enduring institution in Russian rock.
