About the artist
Kittie are a Canadian heavy metal band formed in London, Ontario, in 1996. The group came together when Fallon Bowman and Mercedes Lander met in gym class; Morgan Lander (vocals, guitar), Fallon Bowman (guitar, backing vocals) and Tanya Chandler (bass) rounded out the original lineup alongside Mercedes Lander on drums. Notably young at the time of their debut, the band drew wide attention for fronting an aggressive metal sound in a genre dominated by men.
Their 1999 debut album, «Spit», produced on NG Records and later reissued through Artemis, became a breakout success, going gold in the United States and yielding singles such as «Brackish» and «Charlotte». The record established Kittie's signature blend of nu-metal aggression, groove-laden riffs and Morgan Lander's dual vocal style, switching between guttural growls and melodic singing.
The band continued evolving across «Oracle» (2001) and «Until the End» (2004), before parting ways with Artemis Records in 2005 and launching their own label. Later releases, including «Funeral for Yesterday» (2007), «In the Black» (2009) and «I've Failed You» (2011), pushed the group toward a heavier, more technical death-metal-influenced sound. In 2014 Kittie marked their 20th anniversary with a documentary chronicling the band's history, cementing their legacy as one of the most enduring all-female-fronted metal acts.
