Kishi Bashi

Kishi Bashi is the performing name of Kaoru Ishibashi, an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his virtuosic violin work, layered vocal loops, and richly orchestrated indie-pop songcraft. Before establishing his solo career he was a founding member of the band Jupiter One and spent time touring as a violinist and collaborator with of Montreal, experience that shaped the baroque-pop textures and live looping techniques central to his own music.

As a solo artist he built his sound around real-time loop pedals, string arrangements, and a falsetto-tinged voice that blends folk, chamber pop, and electronic production. His albums moved from exuberant, hook-driven pieces toward more conceptual and personally charged work, including a project that grappled with Japanese-American history and the World War II internment camps, reflecting his own heritage.
