Kimya Dawson

Kimya Dawson is an American singer-songwriter whose lo-fi, plainspoken folk songs pair a warm, sing-song delivery with unflinching honesty about depression, addiction, and self-doubt. She first gained attention as one half of the anti-folk duo The Moldy Peaches, formed in New York's East Village scene alongside Adam Green, known for deliberately amateurish, deadpan songwriting that helped define the anti-folk movement of the early 2000s.

As a solo artist, Dawson developed a distinctive sound built around simple acoustic guitar, minimal production, and a childlike, almost whispered vocal style that makes heavy emotional material feel intimate rather than overwhelming. Her songs, like «Tire Swing» and «My Mom», moved between playful whimsy and stark vulnerability, often addressing mental health and personal struggle with disarming directness.
