About the artist
Kim Larsen (1945–2018) was one of Denmark's most beloved and iconic musicians, revered as a voice of the Danish common people and a symbol of national free-thinking spirit. He rose to fame in the late 1960s and became a household name through the band Gasolin', which he co-founded with Franz Beckerlee, Wili Jønsson, and Søren Berlev, releasing their self-titled debut album in 1971 and going on to define a generation of Danish rock.
After Gasolin' disbanded, Larsen embarked on a prolific solo career spanning decades, releasing albums such as those featuring «Midt Om Natten», «Papirsklip», and the children's favorite «Elefantens Vuggevise». His music combined rock, pop, and country influences with plainspoken, poetic Danish lyrics, often addressing everyday life, social critique, and love with warmth and humor. Over his career he released some 35 albums as a solo artist and in various band lineups.
Larsen passed away in September 2018 after a long illness, mourned across Denmark as a defining voice of the nation's musical identity. In March 2019, his first posthumous album, Sange Fra Første Sal, was released, completed with the help of his son Hjalmer and longtime manager Jørn «Ørn» Jeppesen, ensuring his legacy continued beyond his lifetime.
