Keane

Keane are an English rock band formed in Battle, East Sussex, built around the songwriting partnership of pianist Tim Rice-Oxley and singer Tom Chaplin, alongside drummer Richard Hughes. Founding member Dominic Scott departed early in the band's history, leaving the group to develop its signature sound without a guitarist — piano taking the lead role instead, a rarity among rock bands of their era.

The band's 2004 debut album, Hopes and Fears, propelled them to the forefront of the mid-2000s British rock scene alongside contemporaries like Coldplay, Snow Patrol and Travis. Singles such as «Somewhere Only We Know», «Everybody's Changing» and «Bedshaped» became defining hits of the decade, and «Somewhere Only We Know» in particular has endured as one of the era's most recognizable songs. Bassist Jesse Quin joined the lineup later, rounding out the band's sound for subsequent releases.

Keane continued their run of commercially successful albums with Under the Iron Sea, Perfect Symmetry and Strangeland, before going on hiatus. They reunited to work on new material, resulting in the album Cause & Effect and the accompanying Dirt EP of demos. Their music is distinguished by lush, piano-driven arrangements, soaring vocal melodies and an emotionally direct, anthemic style.
