About the artist
Kazuya Yoshii is a Japanese singer, guitarist and songwriter best known as the frontman of the rock band THE YELLOW MONKEY, one of the most commercially successful and influential Japanese rock acts of the 1990s. The band's glam-rock-inflected sound and Yoshii's flamboyant stage persona made them a defining act of the era before their initial breakup in 2001.
Alongside his work with the band, Yoshii pursued a solo career marked by a broader range of styles, from rock and pop to more experimental and soul-influenced material, showcasing his distinctive high, expressive vocal delivery. THE YELLOW MONKEY later reunited, and Yoshii has continued to move between solo projects and work with the group.
His catalogue includes songs used as anime and drama theme music, and his songwriting is often noted for its theatrical, glam-influenced sensibility combined with strong pop melodicism, which has made him a lasting figure in Japanese rock across both his band and solo output.
