Kamikazee

Kamikazee is a Filipino rock band formed in Manila in 2000, known as one of the defining acts of the OPM (Original Pilipino Music) alternative rock scene in the 2000s and 2010s. The band built its reputation on Jay Contreras’ distinctive, raspy vocal delivery combined with driving guitar work, blending hard rock energy with the melodic sensibility of mainstream Filipino pop, which allowed them to cross over from rock radio to broader commercial success.

The group’s lineup has centered on Jay Contreras on vocals, alongside guitarists and a rhythm section that shaped their signature wall-of-sound production. Their catalog includes anthemic singles such as «Narda», «Halik», «Huling Sayaw» and «Martyr Nyebera», tracks that became staples of Philippine rock radio and remain fixtures at live shows and festivals across the country.

Over two decades, Kamikazee has remained a touchstone for Filipino rock, influencing younger bands while continuing to perform and record. Their willingness to mix rap-inflected verses and pop hooks into a rock framework, heard on songs like «Seksi!
